Hiring will witness a 7%-point growth if lockdowns are not imposed

The TeamLease Services ‘Employment Outlook Report’ for the period April-June, 2021 is out and posts a positive outlook for hiring intent if the lockdown and workplace operation rules are discontinued. From a review of 21 industries, they predict at least a 7% rise in hiring intent over the next quarter with Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals, Educational Services, Ecommerce & Technology start-ups, and Information Technology being key sectors expanding their talent pool. The article elaborates upon geographical areas and business sizes that will be drivers of rising in hiring.

The expert panel of leaders in the people and workspace at the People Matters TechHR SEA focused on candidates’ journey through recruitment. They discussed the changed expectations of candidates in the face of the COVID-19 crisis and how they assess the company’s brand value in terms of how the company stood by its employees. The key takeaways were to think like a candidate, leverage technology for communication automation, optimize processes to avoid bias, target candidate persona, and reject with empathy. The goal in the coming days will be for recruiters to find a balance between human connection and a robust technology system that can accelerate the recruiter’s productivity.

Most common hiring errors and how to alleviate them  

Talent acquisition requires foresight which can be achieved by following simple hiring rules. First, good candidates have a few core skills but vast experience in a vast set of industry challenges. Second, eliminate subliminal hiring bias based on attire, gender, or sexual orientation. Third, give precise job requirements, hire only for requirements, and avoid reference-based hiring for key posts.  Fourth, more than the presentation, focus on the real ‘ask’ of the role, hire for the right pay for the role and ensure that the candidate is aligned to the company culture. Finally, the hiring manager must stay connected with the candidate until handover to the induction team to engage the new joiner.
